La Belleza
Title
Description
Les fleurs immortelles
Petals of silky white, stems of plastic green
How closely you resemble flowers from a garden
Maybe you could be from a far-off land
Instead, your birthplace is a factory
You will never wilt or suffer agonizing thirst
You will never appreciate the sun’s glowing rays
You will never die, you will never live
No bee will pollinate you no children will you make
Just collecting dust on a shelf
Your immortality is in name only
You are celebrated for never dying
Because death is the enemy but what if it’s not
This fear should only be caused by losing sight of what’s real
This fakeness permeates us
A fear of age, a fear of death
Death’s the only thing truly real
All flowers will die; the cycle of life
It will be okay; it’s the natural order
People live, they die
Just collecting dust on a shelf
Seemingly forgetful that there’s something after
Something greater than what we have
Our possessions are temporary, our souls are not
Oh, flowers, fake and dear, with your lack of growth
The needed lessons you teach are embedded in tasteless eternality
Take heart in death, it’s where you live
